Looking at the Ávila

I just finished reading The Mark of Athena and just. Why. Why that ending. Damn you Rick Riordan for not giving everyone a break. And now I have to wait at least nine months to get the next book? Fuck.

I just want to tell you, white, non-Latin American person, that you don’t have any right to think that my culture, my friends and I are your personal entertainment tool.

Do you find it funny that we dance in a specific way?

Is it funny to you how we dance reggeton or bachata or whatever?

Do we look like a joke to you?

Well, if the answer is yes, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. You don’t have the right to record us with your iPhone and then act like we are crazy drunks when we confront you about it. We are people, not circus freaks or exhibition material. Keep your entitlement to a minimum, because you are NOBODY to tell me that this is “your territory” and that we are violating your “personal bubble” by going up to you and telling you that you are being disrespectful and racist.

I would have never thought that my first time feeling like a direct victim of racism would come through something like this. And fuck you stupid ignorant people, because while you are not going to be affected by this tomorrow or in a month, I will always have the experience in the back of my mind.

Grow up. Learn about the world. Try to become a decent person. Surely it can’t be that hard, right?

I love how many US Americans are so offended by Psy and anti-Americanism and how I can read all their winning because “ALL COUNTRIES HAVE SCREWED UP AND NO-ONE IS PERFECT!!1 LEAVE MY ‘MURRICA ALONE”. Guys, you’re missing the point. In recent history, the USA has been the main force behind the conflicts of other country. Your nation has directly affected the lives of millions of people out there, and many times, it has affected it negatively. So get over the fact that thousands of people are not in love with you and that some of them might hate you (yes, ideally they should only hate the government and the military, but who said strong feelings are rational?)

And I swear that if I ever see the excuse “but the US is such a young country, we’re just learning” again… Guess what? The whole continent is made up of other young countries who, surprise, have been screwed over by you. Just look at all those dictatorships in Latin America that had US American support (Pinochet anyone?)

Sometimes I just stop and think about the missed opportunities concerning Korra and Asami. What if Korra had met Asami before the bending bros? Meeting each other on their own and not through a boy. Think about the friendship. They both are probending fans, what if Asami invited Korra on a date to a probending game?? WHAT IF??
