Knocking Them Down
“You can’t knock me down!”
It’s been over a month since ‘The Legend of Korra’ ended its first season and during this time I’ve reflected on many aspects of the show. The stuff I liked and the stuff I didn’t like, but during all this reflection I keep going back to this line. “You can’t knock me down.” Now, this line isn’t from ‘Korra’ it’s from its predecessor ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’ But it clearly illustrates to me what is alternately the most disappointing and infuriating failing of the first season of ‘Korra’. And that’s the writing of the female characters.
When Katara said this line in the original show it was a moment of defiance and empowerment. It was tailored to Katara in that specific moment but in my mind it became one of the biggest mission statements for female characters in the show. In ‘Avatar’, the female characters had agency, they had development, and they had power that was manifested in many different ways. Some were love interests but being a love interest wasn’t ALL they were. They made mistakes. They fell down but the narrative allowed them to rise and be better than they ever were before. Even Azula, who ended the show broken, wasn’t that way because the show was being cruel or careless to her character. It was the natural ending of her arc that the show had been crafting for two seasons.
The key reason why ‘Avatar’ succeeded where ‘Korra’ failed is that there was a clear respect for the narratives of ladies in ‘Avatar’ that is just not there in ‘Korra.’

Don’t Judge Me Pls
At the insistence of celebrated tumblr blogger daffyloins I am going to post how I think characters in both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are in the sack. I don’t know how I ended up at this point but here it goes. I suggest putting on this song 2 set the mood.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Aang - Aang has a long dick not 2 wide but not a needle dick. He’s enthusiastic in bed but pretty vanilla. He’s the pussy eating champion like it’s his absolute favorite thing to do. Airbending out his nose so homeboy is down there for days.
Katara - Katara is totally wildcat. She’s all about scratching and biting and pulling her own hair since Aang doesn’t have any. Girl is loud as hell.
Sokka - Sokka is a total jack rabbit. It feels gr8 while it lasts but it’s always a bit short. A big fan of doggy AND froggy style.
Toph - Toph. is. terrifying. People know going in that they’re going to have a good time but that they might end up with some broken bones. She’s also totally into pissing on people.
Zuko - Zuko is very mushy like totally emotionally open. Always asking if it feels okay and if he’s hurting you. Constant ‘I love yous.’ He’s all about eye contact next level shit. And he cries if it gets too intense. The ultimate bottom bitch.
Suki - Suki is a f r e a k. The damn queen of dirty talk. She’s all ‘hey lil mama lemme whisper in ur ear.’ Girl will do damn near anything.
Azula - Azula is into hardcore BDSM lol what else? She has Ty Lee contort into all kinds of painful positions and goes to town on her with a dildo. (Because Azula/Ty Lee OTP)
